  • (4/13/2010) In 2009, Pioneer Network received a grant from The Picker Institute to increase consumers' knowledge about aging and culture change so that we as a nation, and in our communities, can provide responsive care and caring to both short-term and long-term stay residents in nursing homes. With this pilot project, Changing the Culture of Aging: Taking a First Step to Creating Knowledgeable Consumers, Pioneer Network began the process of learning the most effective means of diffusing information about culture change, and determining consumer interest to learn more about person-centered care.   • (3/1/2010) Members of the Coalition to Protect Senior Care (CPSC) provide around-the-clock care to elderly/disabled individuals requiring skilled nursing care. ACHCA is a member association and is represented on the letters sent to both the House and Senate to urge them to extend the exceptions process for Medicare Part B outpatient therapy services.   • (6/12/09) ACHCA is a founding member of the Advancing Excellence (AE) campaign. Several of our members and staff serve on AE task forces.   • (5/20/09) The training slides used by CMS Baltimore to train surveyors on the modifications to surveyor guidance focused on culture change can be found here. CMS Region V provided these slides with permission from CMS Baltimore.
  • (5/8/09) A grant the Pioneer Network submitted to the Picker Institute, “Changing the Culture of Aging: Taking a First Step to Creating Knowledgeable Consumers” has been funded. ACHCA will be partnering on this one year initiative. Other partners include: American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging, (AAHSA), the American Health Care Association, (AHCA), the American Medical Directors Association (AMDA), the Coalition of Geriatric Nursing Organizations (CGNO), The Massachusetts Long Term Care Foundation and the National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care (NCCNHR). The budget provides a $3000 stipend for each organization to underwrite its participation. For more information click here.
