The Affordable Care Act and Empowering Older Adults

A major focus of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is on patient-centered care. The goal of empowering and giving voice to the wishes of older adults is shared across the spectrum of aging services.
  1. How is this goal being accomplished?
  2. How do such diverse settings as nursing homes, physicians' offices, senior centers and in-home long-term care respond?
  3. What are the consequences, intended and unintended, of this shift in focus?
This year's Lawton Conference addresses these issues by offering the opportunity to learn how each type of setting is helping to empower older adults. We will also consider how these diverse agencies can collaborate in order to achieve this and other goals set by the ACA and related policy initiatives.
