The American College of Health Care Administrators (ACHCA) is seeking leaders who are interested in serving on the Board of Directors. ACHCA's Board of Directors consists of seventeen members:  Chair, Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect, Immediate Past President, Secretary/ Treasurer, Academic Director, six Directors at Large, and six District Directors.  The President & CEO of ACHCA serves as ex officio.

Open positions for the 2019 elections are: 

  • At-Large Directors (2)
  • Academic Director
  • Directors from District 5 and 6
  • Nominating Committee Members (3)

Qualified candidates for Director shall have been ACHCA Voting Members in good standing for at least the immediately preceding two years, and a Fellow of ACHCA. The Board of Directors may identify additional qualifications for Directors. [ACHCA Bylaws as of 2013]

  • Directors who specifically represent a designated area or membership group shall be elected by plurality vote of the Voting Members voting from that designated area or membership group as assisted by the national ACHCA office. [ACHCA Bylaws as of 2013]

  • An opportunity to enhance the value of ACHCA to the Long Term Care community;
  • Access to up-to-date information about the challenges facing your profession;
  • The chance to exchange ideas and perspectives with other volunteer leaders.

ACHCA values and seeks diverse leadership. The Board is searching for leaders from various backgrounds and all types and sizes of eligible organizations. The Board has identified desired attributes that will be part of the selection process for new Board members:

  • Demonstrated leadership commitment and involvement with ACHCA and the ACHCA chapter network.  Examples include but are not limited to service on an ACHCA committee or task force, district meeting, and chapter functions/committees.
  • Commitment to professional development through achieving the FACHCA designation; the Committee also considers if a candidate has earned the CNHA or CALA credential. 
  • A recognized leader in the post-acute and long-term care community. Examples include but are not limited to serving as the chair of an Allied Society or philanthropic organization.
  • Relevant expertise in the disciplines of organizational management. Examples include but are not limited to branding, fundraising, chapter relations, finance, and strategic alliances.
Expectations of Board members:
  • Participate in two to three face-to-face board meetings a year. Board members are expected to cover their travel expenses when attending these board meetings.
  • Positive leadership attributes, emotional intelligence, ability to work collaboratively, and engage in appropriate debate and discussion when needed.
  • Visionary and strategic thinker. Demonstrated ability of new and innovative programs within their sphere of influence. Examples include but are not limited to incorporating strategy, leadership, future focus, risk-taking, and an entrepreneur spirit.
